The Chevrolet Cruze, launched globally in 2009 and in the US in 2010, is Chevrolet’s bestselling car globally. The Cruze has sold over 1.13 million vehicles since it was launched in 2009 and more than 670,000 units in 2011.

A combination of style, fuel efficiency, comfort and safety have given the  Cruze a regular presence in the top ten best sellers lists in many of the 100 countries where the vehicle is sold.

In its first 12 months on sale in the United States the Chevrolet Cruze ranked 10th amongst all vehicles sold in the USA. In November 2011, just as Chevrolet celebrated its 100th anniversary, Cruze sales passed the 1 million mark. February 2012 sales figures for the US market saw Cruze sales exceed 20 000 units for the sixth month in succession. This was also the sixth successive month of year-on-year growth for the model.

Similar success for the Cruze is experienced in Europe where 39 400 units were delivered to their owners during 2011. This placed the Cruze at the top of its market segment for the year as the brand expanded with the introduction of new variants, one of them the Cruze hatchback, likely to be seen in South Africa towards the end of 2012.

In South Africa the Cruze is equally successful as a regular on the top-ten best sellers list. Cruze currently has a market share of 10% in its segment with a total of 14834 units sold since its launch in 2009. The success of the Chevrolet Cruze is driven by an excellent value proposition in terms of price versus features, excellent build quality and low operating costs. This is all backed up by the solid reputation of the Chevrolet brand which had global sales of more than 4.76 vehicles in 2011, the highest in the brands 100-year history.

The South African Cruze range consists of five models with a choice of either ‘L’ or ‘LS’ trim and 83 kW 1,6 litre petrol engine; 1,8 litre 105 kW petrol engine and ‘LS’ trim; the ‘LT’ trim level matched to the 104 kW petrol engine and 6-speed automatic transmission – the only vehicle with this feature in its class; 110 kW turbo diesel with ‘LT’ trim level.

The Cruze 2.0D LT features the latest generation common rail diesel engine with electronically controlled variable vane turbocharger. In tests conducted by GM engineers fuel consumption of 5,7 l/100km was recorded for the combined cycle. Both petrol engines are modern four-cylinder, 16-valve units with variable valve timing.

The specification of the base model ‘L’ trim level includes: alloy wheels; 4 channel ABS system; power steering; sports type front seats; height adjustment for the driver’s seat; power windows front and rear; power side mirrors; keyless remote central locking; four airbags; and front loading radio CD combo. The LS and LT trim levels build on this with the LT specification including full leather seats; dual zone climate control air conditioner; park assist and rain sensing windscreen wipers.

The Chevrolet Cruze is backed by a 5-year/ 120 000 km warranty with roadside assistance for the full warranty period.
