Three engineers from GM Korea’s headquarters in Seoul visited General Motors South Africa (GMSA) this month to support the company’s preparation for the assembly of the Chevrolet Spark at the Struandale plant later this year.
The Chevrolet Spark is currently built in Korea. Kookjin Kim (left), Woochan Kim (middle) and Jongchul Song (right) came to validate vehicle master data and ultimately confirm that GMSA material releases will be accurate. Meanwhile they built the first prototype at Struandale as part of a training programme for GMSA employees who will be working on the Chevrolet Spark line. GMSA team leader on the Chevrolet Utility general assembly line, Ebrahim Venter (second from left), and Bonakele Lucas (second from right), a process planning engineer, participated in the prototype assembly. This unit will now be stripped down and rebuilt as part of line operator training.
